We are pleased to announce that the Satoyama villa Honjin (former Honjin Ozawa House) won the Excellence Award in the Existing Stock Utilization Category at the 15th Nagano Prefecture Architectural Culture Awards in 2020.

” The project was successful in achieving the difficult task of providing a comfortable stay for guests while preserving the furnishings of a historic cultural asset. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Masaki Ohta of Yokouchi Design Office (design), Mr. Daisaku Maeda of atelier m4 (space design), Ballena Ltd. and Kawakubo Corporation (construction) for their cooperation in the design and renovation. I will continue to do my best so that the building will be loved by many people and can be preserved for future generations.” (Natsue Mochizuki)

(Judge’s comment)
“This is a unique design in which the wide veranda next to the tatami room has been converted into a bathroom, so that when the shoin window is opened, you can see the bathroom. ~ I think this facility will be a good starting point for the reuse of vacant houses and traditional houses, which is becoming an issue today. (Mr. Yosuke Baba)”.
